Long Beach

Long Beach is exciting as it is the venue of the 2028 LA Games. There is always this energy of anticipation and edge as we get to compete at the venue 6 years early: learn the trends, anticipate the wind patterns, and get as fast as possible around the marks.

We spent about a week training and learning lots. The main focus was trying to complete the highly coveted foiling tack. Switching around the sail while the board never touches the water, gliding effortlessly and efficiently. The process of learning, however, is not nearly as effortless. I probably fell on 7/10 tacks which means lots of picking up the sail. This skill will be the next huge development in the iQFOiL class with the potential for 100% flight time in a race.

Beyond the great on the water training, Anna Tunnicliffe (2-Time Olympian and Gold Medalist) did daily workouts that definitely got our blood moving. I have been fighting a knee injury and the workouts did flare some pain but seeing improvement is always so exciting. We also continued to support one another as an iQ team. From staying with four of the boys in an Airbnb to hanging out with the girls at the sailing center, the summer continues to not only be one of learning and improving on the kit, but also one of fun memories that brings us together as a stronger team!
