The Team

Even though when I joined the team none of the boys talked to me much because I didn’t know anything about windsurfing, I pushed through and now have a second family. I’ve pretty much always been the only girl on the team which leaves me with 6 new brothers that I have traveled near and far with and truly mean the world to me. Despite being an individual sport, the team out of CCSC constantly pushes each other to succeed and push our level so we can compete at an international level. We have discussions (sometimes almost arguments ;)) about how to sail the fastest, what gear settings to be using, and how to campaign.

Even since I’ve been in school, whenever I come home it’s like I haven’t been gone a second; the conversation flows and the gear gets rigged. Noah ensures not a line or block is out of place. Alex reveals his newest technical strategy. Maverick is confident that a seat harness will work-again.

The team at CCSC is incredibly passionate and always wants the best thing for each other. In fact, I was brought to tears when I heard the news that Justin Ahearn was selected by US Sailing to coach Alex and I at the Jr. Pan American Games. All those days at practice were paying off and we got to go to the biggest regatta in my life thus far together. This meant we not only were representing the US but CCSC too and I couldn’t have been prouder to represent the sailing center which has given me so much.

I truly think without the team I might not have continued windsurfing. In high school, I was incredibly busy with school and extracurriculars, sometimes windsurfing fell to the back burner but those boys always drew me back in. The trips to Miami where we all stayed in tiny Airbnbs to save money. The wake foiling days where everyone takes countless turns. The days when we just hang out and talk. These days and trips always pulled me back to the group of people and the sport I love and now they’ve pushed me to pursue it at the highest level and get to go on the journey of a lifetime, not only as an individual but as a team.
