Summer Preparations
My plane lands at Tampa International and I am immediately checking the wind forecast. I am incredibly antsy to get back on my board and soar above the water. But first I get to show some of my friends from WashU around the Tampa Bay Area! We’re running a million miles a minute to see all the sights and I even teach them to windsurf! Then it seems like the next couple of weeks are almost completely full of anticipation for the next windsurfing session.
The Florida summer conditions held to their typical patterns of hot air and light breeze. We would wait for hours at the sailing center just hoping the sea breeze would fill. When it first did it felt like the stars aligned. The board felt natural under my feet and the sail natural in my hands. I glided above the water in absolute bliss. As I pull my board out of the water from the session my love for the sport is at the front of my mind and how much I missed it while I was at school is apparent.
The cycle continues: getting to the sailing center, waiting for breeze, and the session whenever possible. It is broken up by spending time with my family, seeing friends from my hometown, purchasing new gear and tuning old gear, and even working a week of summer camp at CCSC again. It is so good to be home and back with the people and places I truly adore.
My family also takes a trip to Denver which is super excited because the whole family is back together again! We go to a Bleachers show at Red Rocks which was gorgeous and by far the best music venue I’ve been to!
My time at home ends with packing for my summer training which starts in Hood River, Oregon and I couldn’t be more excited to escape the Florida heat for cool and windy Oregon!
